Austin Moran is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He is currently employed as a Wildlife Technician with the Tribal Wildlife Management Program. He received a B. S. Degree in Environmental Science from Salish and Kootenai College in 2013. While attending college, Austin worked with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Tribal Wildlife Management Program. While he was with the Service, he oversaw a Youth Conservation Corp (YCC) program for Native American high school students on the Flathead Indian Reservation. In this YCC program, he and other crew leaders took the students across the reservation and assisted the Tribal Wildlife Management Program with habitat restoration and wildlife surveys. After beginning work as a Tribal Wildlife Technician, Austin also assisted the Tribal Wildlife program with various projects, including urban deer population management.
His current duties include habitat restoration on Kerr Wildlife Mitigation properties, gathering data from the wildlife crossing structures on Highway 93 and entering it into a database, and assisting with aerial and ground wildlife surveys for species of interest. He continues to work with Tribal Wildlfie Biologists in the management of ungulates and general fur-bearers, while occasionally assisting with grizzly bear and forest carnivore surveys and management activities throughout the Reservation.
